LG Energy Solution and GM invest to build another cell plant

Ultium Cells, a joint venture between LG Energy Solution and General Motors, has announced a $2.6 billion investment. It will be the construction of a third battery cell manufacturing plant in the United States.

The 260,000 sq ft plant will be located in Lansing, Michigan. It is expected to create 1,700 new jobs when fully operational, with a target capacity of 50 GWh at full production. It is scheduled to open in late 2024. – With a shared vision, GM and LG Energy Solution have become pioneers in the EV sector, seizing new opportunities in the market long before others, said Young Soo Kwon, president of LG Energy Solution.

LG Energy Solution and General Motors established Ultium Cells in 2019. The Lansing plant will supply battery cells to Orion Assembly in Michigan and other GM EV assembly plants.
