Key components for the Żarnowiec Energy Storage Facility have already arrived at the construction site

The delivery and installation phase for key components of the Electric Energy Storage Facility has begun in Żarnowiec. The first units of the DC-Link containerized energy storage system are arriving at the project site and are being immediately installed in their designated locations—on specially prepared foundation slabs. All units were manufactured in Poland.

The Żarnowiec Energy Storage Facility is a project that provides tangible support to the Polish economy. The batteries – the heart of the entire system – are manufactured in Poland, which results in a high proportion of local content in this investment. The entire project is being implemented using modern, proven technologies and with funding from the National Recovery Plan –

Deliveries of DC-Link units to the construction site in Żarnowiec began on April 13, 2026. According to the schedule, the entire delivery process is set to be completed in late June or early July 2026.

Ultimately, 204 DC-Link container units, each weighing approximately 45 tons, will be installed at the project site. Installation work is being carried out in accordance with the manufacturer’s strict requirements, at a rate of four units per day on average.

We are creating a fully local value chain that encompasses both technology development and production in Poland. We have launched a production line for energy storage systems built entirely locally – from electrodes and cells to complete storage units. The line is now fully operational and has begun regular production. The first mass production for PGE has just begun in Biskupice Podgórne, and the first units have already been manufactured and are being delivered to Żarnowiec. This proves that local infrastructure and expertise allow us to carry out such advanced projects entirely in Poland, while maintaining the highest safety and quality standards –

The Energy Storage Facility in Żarnowiec, one of the largest installations of its kind in Europe, will have a capacity of 262 MW and a storage capacity of 981 MWh. It is based on LG Energy Solution’s DC-Link battery technology—a complete system in which key components, such as battery modules, a liquid cooling system, and an independent fire protection system, have been integrated into containerized storage units.

The DC-Link units are manufactured and assembled in Poland at LG Energy Solution’s European factory in Biskupice Podgórne. They meet the IEC and CE standards applicable in the European market.

The construction of the Electricity Storage Facility in Żarnowiec represents an important step toward increasing the flexibility of the national power system and effectively integrating renewable energy sources. The completion of this project will help strengthen energy security and ensure stable grid operation amid the growing share of renewable energy sources –

PGE Energia Odnawialna is carrying out one of the key investments aimed at strengthening the stability of the National Power System—the construction of an Energy Storage Facility (MEE) in Żarnowiec, along with the necessary technical infrastructure. The project is co-financed by non-repayable funds from the National Recovery and Resilience Plan.
