Wspieramy BioHackathon na Politechnice Warszawskiej

We support BioHackaton at the Warsaw University of Technology

From May 24-26, LG Energy Solution Wrocław proudly supports the BioHackathon, which is part of the ENHANCE Hackathons event organized at the Warsaw University of Technology Innovation Center. As a partner of this innovative initiative, we are committed to promoting progress in the field of biotechnology and the circular economy.

BioHackathon Rules

The Biohackathon focuses on participants developing solutions to industry-related problems. Teams of 4-5 people will have two days to create, develop, and present solutions at the intersection of biology and technology. The event aims to encourage students to establish new scientific contacts and expand their knowledge of current challenges in biotechnology. The implementation of BioHackathon tasks will require participants to synergize different disciplines, work effectively in teams, and study existing solutions.

The results of the teams’ work will be presented to the public on the last day. Additionally, participants can take part in soft skills workshops and lectures related to the natural sciences sector. The active participation of the scientific advisory board guarantees participants reliable feedback, idea development, and perhaps even the implementation of the created solution.

Event participants will not only expand their knowledge in the field of the circular economy but will also develop solutions that allow for the valorization of waste using biotechnological methods.

BioHackathon winners will receive a prize of €2,000, and all participants will receive 1 ECTS point for participating in the competition.

We believe that the creativity, innovation, and commitment of the participants will contribute to creating solutions with the potential for revolutionary impact on the future of biotechnology. As LG Energy Solution Wrocław, we are convinced that supporting events like the BioHackathon is crucial for the development of science and education in Poland. Our partnership with the Warsaw University of Technology is another step towards strengthening cooperation with higher education institutions and supporting young talents who will shape the future of our planet.

Our cooperation with academic centers allows for the exchange of knowledge and experiences, which is invaluable in striving for excellence and pioneering solutions in the field of energy. We support research projects, create opportunities for internships and apprenticeships, and engage in organizing conferences and workshops that serve as a platform for the exchange of thoughts and ideas.

About the Herbion Biotechnologists’ Science Club

The Herbion Biotechnologists’ Science Club is an organization that brings together young enthusiasts of science, especially biotechnology and related fields. Its history dates back to 2003. In 2013, at the initiative of our Club’s members, students, and graduates of the University of Warsaw and the Warsaw University of Life Sciences, the Warsaw Biotechnological Association “Symbiosis” was established.

Currently, the Club focuses its activities on three areas: popularization of science, implementation of scientific projects, and development of the members’ knowledge and skills. As part of the popularization of science, scientific shows and workshops are organized, such as the Children’s University. Annually, Herbion prepares a stand at the Polish Radio Science Picnic and the Copernicus Science Center, and participates in the Warsaw University of Technology Educational Picnic.

The latest projects from the Rector’s Grants and Small Grants Pool are:

  • (2023) Development of a new method for producing nanoemulsions as drug carriers
  • (2023) BioTeU. – Bioleaching of tellurium from photovoltaic panels as an element of Urban Mining
  • (2019) Isolation and identification of microorganisms capable of degrading xenobiotics
  • (2018) Production of biosurfactants by newly isolated yeast strains

In addition, since 2016, Herbion Club has been continuously running the “PiWo” project, which allows students to develop scientifically and provides the opportunity to apply theoretical biotechnological knowledge in practice.
