Seollal is one of the most important holidays in the Korean calendar. It is celebrated on the first day of the first lunar month (in accordance with Confucian tradition and the lunisolar calendar), marking a new beginning—the first day of a new year. Its origins date back to the period of the Three Kingdoms (1st millennium CE).
