LG Energy Solution Wrocław starts cooperation with Wrocław University of Technology

Europe’s largest manufacturer of batteries for electric cars and a leading Polish university have signed a long-term cooperation agreement. This is in response to the growing demand for highly specialised personnel in the electromobility sector and the development of ongoing projects.

Established in 2016, LG Energy Solution Wrocław is the largest manufacturer of lithium-ion batteries for electric cars in Europe. Located in Biskupice Podgórne, the plant employs nearly 10,000 people and covers an area of around 100 hectares, making it one of the key employers in the region. Established in 1945, Wrocław University of Technology is one of the most prestigious technical universities in Poland, educating specialists in many fields.

Seeing the potential of current projects and research, LG Energy Solution Wrocław and the Wrocław University of Technology concluded a cooperation agreement that will be valid for 5 years.

Multi-dimensional cooperation in many fields

Poland has become a European leader in the production of lithium-ion batteries, in which LG Energy Solution Wrocław, the largest manufacturer in Europe, has a huge share. The great potential of the automotive industry has also been noticed by Wroclaw University of Technology, which this academic year launched a new course of study – Electromobility – at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering.

Cooperation between LG Energy Solution Wrocław and the Wrocław University of Technology is a chance for the development of the whole sector. The framework agreement on cooperation concerns, among other things, the implementation of scientific projects, research and development activities and student internships. In addition, the agreement provides for the possibility of co-creation of curricula and patronage over selected fields of study.

An opportunity for Wrocław and Poland

Representatives of both sides agree that joint action will bring tangible benefits to everyone, including the entire region. – We have the most modern technologies and we set trends in electromobility. This makes us an attractive partner. We are happy with the cooperation, because we will help to train qualified personnel and increase the skills of specialists educated in Wrocław – says Piotr Blachura, HR Director at LG Energy Solution Wrocław. The representatives of the Wrocław University of Technology are of a similar opinion. – We are convinced that our cooperation in conducting research, innovative projects and their subsequent implementation will make the whole industry progress even more dynamically. It is an opportunity for everyone, especially for Lower Silesia – says Prof. Dariusz Łydżba, Vice Rector for Cooperation, Wroclaw University of Technology. Internships and apprenticeships in the company will enable development of students and a good entry into the labour market in an advanced environment.
