Joint investment by LG Energy Solution and General Motors

LG Energy Solution together with General Motors will invest over USD 2.3 billion in the construction of a plant producing cells for electric vehicles. The second plant under the Ultium Cells LLC banner – a joint venture of both groups – will be opened at the end of 2023 in the American Spring Hill, Tennessee. The first is a plant in Lordstown, Ohio.

The new factory will employ 1,300 people. Once operational, the plant will supply cells to GM’s assembly plant in Spring Hill.

This partnership with General Motors will transform Tennessee into another key location for manufacturing electric vehicles and the batteries that power them. It will also allow us to build stable supply chains based in the United States. I am confident that this collaboration will mark a defining moment that will contribute to the uptake of zero emission electric vehicles,” commented Jong Hyun Kim, President of LG Energy Solution.
